In this study, we confirmed the lipid improvement effects of Sunsik added Stachys sieboldii Miq. powder (SSP) in rats. There were four experimental groups: fed normal diet control (NC), fed high fat-cholesterol diet control (HFC), fed HFC diet for 4 weeks and Sunsik for last 2 weeks (HFS2), and fed HFC and Sunsik added diet for 4 weeks (HFS4). For final weight, total body weight gain, and food efficiency ratio of the HFS2 and HFS4 groups were significantly lower than those of the HFC group, and the HFS4 group was not different from the NC group. Blood glucose levels of the HFS2 and HFS4 groups were significantly lower than that of the HFC group, and were not different from the NC group. The total lipid and total cholesterol serum contents of the HFS2 and HFS4 groups were significantly lower than that of the HFC group, and total cholesterol content of the HFS4 group was significantly lower than that of the HFS2 group. LDL-cholesterol content, atherogenic index, and cardiac risk factor of the HFS2 and HFS4 groups were significantly decreased compared to the HFC group. For AST and ALT activities, liver function indices of the HFS2 and HFS4 groups were lower than that of the HFC group. All lipid component contents of liver tissue occurred in the order HFC> HFS2> HFS4> NC groups. These results suggest that Sunsik added SSP can reduce serum and liver lipid components and improve lipid metabolism in hyperlipidemic rats induced with a high fat-cholesterol diet. In addition, long term intake is more effective than short term intake.
